We can thus distinguish between two main groups of sandals, based on the height of their heels:

History

This type of footwear is very old and its origins date back to approximately 10,000 BC, which is the era of the Palaeolithic and primitive man. However, some sources indicate that they may date from the Neolithic period, which is somewhat more recent, although not modern by any means.

Their use was also widespread among the Egyptians and Romans, sandals being the most widely worn footwear among men. Their popularity continues to this day, and their use is particularly common in spring, summer and autumn.
